NGFA's 110th Annual Convention

Charleston Place Hotel,
Charleston, SC
March 5 - 7, 2006

Spouse Program and Family Activities

As is customary at the NGFA convention, an informative and entertaining program awaits spouses. And several events perfect for families
are planned. Below is a schedule of events for spouses and guests. Use the registration form located here to sign up, and plan to bring your
spouse, kids, and other guests to beautiful and historic Charleston!

Monday, March 6

Spouse Program: Passed down from generation to generation, the
ancient technique of sweetgrass basket weaving combines longbranch
pine needles and palmetto fronds and is one of the oldest art forms of
African origin in the United States. Following an interactive conversation,
an artisan weaver will demonstrate sweetgrass weaving techniques.
Instructors then will assist each person in making their own
sweetgrass basket, a uniquely “Low Country” art form to take home as
a souvenir. (Cost included in Spouse Registration)

Fort Sumpter Tour: Located in Charleston Harbor, and accessible only
by boat, Fort Sumpter is the historic site where the Civil War began.
The Fort is a National Monument, maintained by the National Park
Service, and features an excellent museum containing priceless Civil
War exhibits. [Additional Fee]

The Ghosts and Ghouls of Charleston: One of America’s oldest cities,
its history sprinkled with famous characters and locales, Charleston
also has its share of ghosts! Join an evening walking tour for an eerie
journey into Charleston’s haunted past as you stroll 18th and 19th
century neighborhoods of the historic district. Stories and legends of
the unusual and supernatural are combined with the fun and
fascinating history of the city. [Additional Fee]

Tuesday, March 7

Historic Charleston Walking Tour: Enjoy a walking tour of
Charleston’s magnificent Historic District with your own private guide.
Sites visited include St. Michael’s Episcopal Church (circa 1752); the
restored Nathaniel Russell House, a superb example of Adams
architecture; the Edmondston-Alson house, one of the only homes still
containing 90 percent of its original furnishings; and many other
historic landmarks, exquisite gardens and civil war-era locations.

Schooner Pride Harbor Tour: The Pride is an eighty-four foot authentic
tall ship which sails Charleston’s historic harbor and the South
Carolina coastal waters. Enjoy a two-hour harbor cruise with the
engine off and the sails full, as the Pride quietly glides along to the
natural sounds of dolphins, gulls, wind and water.

Closing Banquet: Bring the whole family to the convention's signature closing event - this year, the banquet will be a fun-filled party featuring a cocktail reception, a lavish sit-down dinner and an after-dinner performance by The Have Nots!, a renowned improv comedy troupe based in Charleston. The Have Nots! unscripted comedy shows is fresh and different. Come to the party ready to enjoy first-rate food and drink, excellent company and a show that will send you home laughing.
