The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) is seeking applications from qualified entities to provide official grain inspection and weighing services under the U.S. Grain Standards Act for three agencies whose designations expire on Dec. 31.
The three official designated agencies up for renewal are: Columbus (Ohio), which provides official services in portions of Michigan and Ohio; 2) Gulf Country, which provides official services in portions of Texas; and 3) Northeast Indiana, which provides official service in that portion of the state, as well as to one elevator in Michigan located within the geographic area served by the Michigan Grain Inspection Service Inc. In a separate action, GIPSA announced the designations of the following organizations to provide official grain inspection and weighing services, effective July 1 through June 30, 2013: 1) East Indiana Grain Inspection Inc., headquartered in Muncie, Ind.; 2) Fremont (Neb.) Grain Inspection Department Inc.; 3) Maryland Department of Agriculture, based in Annapolis, Md.; 4) Enid Grain Inspection Co. Inc., located in Enid, Okla.; and 5) Titus Grain Inspection Inc., based in West Lafayette, Ind. GIPSA noted that East Indiana, Fremont, Maryland and Titus were the sole applicants for designations to provide official service in those geographic areas. Applications were due by Oct. 1, 2009.
