Active Members

Active members are "any individual or firm engaged in the warehousing, processing, manufacturing, merchandising, or distribution of grain or feed, or feed ingredients in the United States and whose membership in [the NGFA] is independent of its membership in any other organization." This is the main category of NGFA membership. NGFA Active Members have full voting rights at meetings of the association.

Active Membership Application

For U.S. firms involved in the cash grain, feed and processing business. This includes companies such as country elevators, export elevators, feed manufacturers, corn and soybean processors, flour and cereal millers, merchandisers, and end users, such as poultry or livestock companies.

Active Member Application (Brokers)

For firms that do not take title to products. This includes cash grain and feed brokers and manufacturers' representatives.

For floor brokers and brokerage firms.

Associate Members

Associate members are "any individual or firm engaged in a business allied with the grain or feed trade, or a foreign firm engaged in the grain or feed industry without facilities in the United States which does not qualify for membership as an Associate/Trading Member." Lending institutions; boards of trade and grain exchanges; equipment manufacturers; suppliers; accountants; consultants; market advisers; law firms; service providers and others are NGFA Associate members. Associate members do not have Rail Arbitration or Regular Arbitration rights. Companies qualifying for Associate membership status that desire the right to use Rail Arbitration and Regular Arbitration may become Associate/Trading members.

Associate/Trading Members

Associate Trading Members are companies otherwise qualified to be Associate members which elect to become an Associate/Trading member. All North American transportation carriers (e.g., railroads, barge lines, trucking companies, etc.) are Associate/Trading members. NGFA Associate Trading members are not subject to compulsory arbitration or automatic application of the NGFA Trade Rules. However, Associate/Trading members may use the NGFA Trade Rules in their contractual documents or otherwise consenting to the use of these rules. In addition, Associate/Trading members may elect to participate in the NGFA Rail Arbitration System. Employees of NGFA Associate/Trading members are eligible to serve as NGFA arbitrators.
