Welcome to the training section of the NGFA where we offer courses and videos covering technical aspects of the grain, feed, export and processing industry.
Courses available for: Feed, Safety, Trade Rules, and the Barge Digital Transformation (BDT) Project.

NGFA currently offers five feed distance learning courses that address animal food safety and operations issues. Each course is 100 percent on-line, self-paced, interactive, and accessible at any time.

Course registration is provided through our digital chalk website that requires participants to create a separate account from their NGFA account, if they have one established. Note that NGFA members registering for a course can receive a $50 discount by requesting a coupon code. If you are a NGFA member, please contact us at ngfa@ngfa.org to receive the coupon code before registering for the course.

Safety and Grain Quality Management

Working in or around a grain bin exposes farmers and workers to serious and life-threatening hazards, including entrapment and suffocation from engulfment. This video, funded by the National Grain and Feed Foundation, illustrates the connection between grain quality and safety. Watch now

Grain Bin Entry Safety

NGFA Manager of Safety, Education, and Training Jim Seibert reviews the basic safety precautions and equipment needed to enter a grain bin. This short video, funded by the National Grain and Feed Foundation, breaks down each step of the process to ensure managers and employees don’t miss a step and stay safe every day. Watch now

Lockout/Tagout

Lockout/Tagout is a safety procedure used to safeguard machines that can pose a safety hazard. This procedure requires that hazardous energy sources be “isolated and rendered inoperative” before work is started on equipment and is one of the requirements under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) control of hazardous energy standard. This FREE training module is funded by the National Grain and Feed Foundation. Watch now.

Slips, Trips and Falls

Slips, trips and falls are a common hazard at any grain handling facility. This training covers best safety practices, legal requirements and interactive question-and-answer scenarios involving slips, trips and falls. This FREE training module is funded by the National Grain and Feed Foundation. Watch now

Your Safety Matters

This 30-minute video on general safety practices for the grain, feed and processing industry is modeled after GEAPS’ Common Hazards/Common Sense video produced in 1988 following issuance of OSHA’s grain handling safety standard [1910.272]. This video addresses the following:

  • Fires and explosions; Confined space and bin entry; Truck and rail safety (such as fall protection); Safe operation of equipment ( such as proper lockout and tagout procedures); Ladder safety; Manlifts; Electrical; Personal protective equipment; Hazard communication; First aid; Emergency actions plans; Facility security

BDT Training at ngfds.org

National Grain and Feed Digital Solutions (NGFDS) has partnered with essDOCS to implement the BDT platform that will digitize barge trading documents, such as bills of lading, so that they may be transmitted electronically – a huge cost savings to the industry. Visit ngfds.org for BDT Platform Training (Sessions I, II, and III) and a preview of the platform with Brittany Schaefer, NGFDS chairman, and Alex Goulandris, co-CEO of essDOCS.
