This section contains information on U.S. Department of Transportation
(DOT) requirements that apply to those who offer for transportation
or transport certain hazardous materials that exceed threshold
levels. Propane, ammonium nitrate fertilizer, anhydrous ammonia,
pesticides and herbicides, gasoline and diesel fuel are examples
of the types of hazardous materials covered under DOT’s
security requirements.
Such transporters are required to:
- develop and implement written security plans; and
- ensure that employees who handle and transport hazardous
materials are trained to recognize and react to potential security
problems.
This section provides access to guidance on performing security
assessments, developing appropriate security measures, providing
training for employees involved in hazardous materials transportation;
and how to perform pre-employment security assessments. It also
provides information on placards and en-route security, as well
as security checklists. In addition, this section provides access
to DOT’s bulletin on frequently asked questions on hazardous
materials transportation security, as well as to relevant DOT
regulations and legislation on hazardous material transportation.
