Submit your applications for the 2020-21 class of NGFA’s Committee Apprentice Program (CAP) by Friday, Jan. 10!
CAP is designed to develop future leaders within the industry and the NGFA by allowing early-career professionals (ideally those with between three and seven years’ work experience) to become apprentices serving on NGFA committees. In addition to participating in their committee’s specific activities, CAPs attend the NGFA annual convention and make a trip to Washington, D.C., each spring for the “CAP DC Experience.” The CAP year runs one year – from one NGFA convention to the next.
A limited number of apprentice positions are available – generally, one to three per committee, based upon committee size. Those interested must apply for selection, including completing an application form and submitting a resume and letter of recommendation from the applicant’s current supervisor. For more information on the program, please visit the NGFA’s CAP page or contact NGFA Vice President for Meetings and Marketing Rebecca Grubbs at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don’t take it from us! Former CAPs have testified to the benefits of the program and the annual D.C. fly-in. Read more:
“The sit-downs on Capitol Hill were some of the best experiences I’ve had in my professional career. Thanks again for the opportunity.”
-Thomas Heck, Merchandising Manager, Nidera
“Undoubtedly, our visits on the Hill were the experience of a lifetime, but I think the most beneficial aspect of the DC experience for me was the time spent with peers in agribusiness. Sharing stories, issues and experiences laid the groundwork for relationships that will prove to be invaluable, both professionally and personally.”
-Cooper Latham, IT Manager, Grain Service Corporation
“Getting to see the whole lobbying process was an eye-opening experience. [It] was very beneficial for me as a person, as well as for the company I represent, to better understand how to advocate for the issues that affect our industry. [I received] knowledge and experience I can utilize for the rest of my career.”
-Bryan Rader, Merchandiser, FS GRAIN, LLC
“I really enjoyed this great opportunity and would recommend it to any other colleagues. I would also like to thank the NGFA staff for a job well done. Everything was very well put together and I really appreciate this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
-Larry Wallace, Technical Services Manager, Westway Feeds Products, LLC
