National Grain and Feed Foundation – Why We Give

…Support the Foundation that Supports the Industry…

Over the past two years, the National Grain and Feed Foundation has built a higher profile at NGFA events and throughout the year. The Foundation is the 501(c)(3) sister organization to the NGFA and fills an important research and public education role for the grain, feed, processing and export industry.

Why support this particular non-profit? Two major donors discuss their support below:

Mark Avery is publisher of the well-known trade publication Grain Journal, which last year became the first corporate donor at the new “Gleaner” recognition level ($20,000-$50,000).

“Much of the Foundation’s research and educational work, such as the study a few years ago measuring particulate matter emissions from grain elevators, is vital to our industry,” Avery said. “Few resources are available from traditional research funding sources for this type of work – in some cases, no resources at all. The National Grain and Feed Foundation is one way for us to help the grain industry when others won’t.”

Among individual supporters of the Foundation, Dave Hoogmoed is one of two people in the “1896 Society,” which recognizes total contributions of $10,000 or more. Hoogmoed is executive vice president of Land O’Lakes Inc. and president of Purina Animal Nutrition LLC, as well as a former industry chairman of the NGFA.

“When the Food Safety Modernization Act became law, there were lots of unanswered questions about how grain, feed and processing businesses could comply,” Hoogmoed said. “The Foundation took the proactive step of sponsoring research by the University of Minnesota that led to development of a hazard-assessment tool. It has been a practical and low-cost way to help many NGFA-member firms comply with FSMA’s animal food rule. Foundation projects and the funding we provide help advance our industry and the ag environment that is so important to us all.”

All donors to the Foundation are recognized on the Foundation web page. Recognition levels are cumulative.

With year-end approaching, all NGFA members are invited to join in supporting the Foundation’s good work – and all contributions are fully tax-deductible! To make a quick and easy donation, click here. Thank you!

Manager of Legal Affairs and Arbitration

lholleman@ngfa.org

Lacy provides staff support for one of NGFA’s premier member services – its more than century old system of industry trade rules and arbitration that facilitates the efficient marketing of grains, oilseeds and their derived products. She also works on contracting, legal and other related matters.

An Arkansas native, Lacy received her undergraduate degree with a double major in history and Russian studies from the University of Tulsa (Okla.) and her law degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. Prior to joining NGFA’s staff in November 2020, she managed a local business at the Pentagon and completed mediation training required by the North Carolina Supreme Court for those seeking to serve as mediators for settlement conferences and other settlement procedures in North Carolina Superior Court civil actions. She also has worked as an assistant for a law firm in her native state.
