The NGFA joined Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue when he rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Sept. 26. Perdue also was joined on the NYSE floor by leadership of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, the American Farm Bureau Federation, National FFA students, as well as dozens of other group representatives and farmers.
Prior to the market close, Perdue met privately with representatives of the agribusiness and agriculture organizations, including Todd Kemp, Senior Vice President of NGFA. In brief remarks, Perdue emphasized the importance of agriculture to the U.S. economy and thanked participants for joining him to stress U.S. agriculture’s contributions in keeping with NYSE’s “Do Right and Feed Everyone” theme for the event.
“The farmers, ranchers, foresters and agricultural producers across America contribute a great deal to the American economy,” Secretary Perdue said after ringing the bell. “I’m pleased to be here today, at the center of our economic activity, with all these people that I’ve met across the country to celebrate the bounty of the American harvest. I thank the New York Stock Exchange for the opportunity.”
