Annual Convention

OVERVIEW

NGFA’s Annual Convention features top policy makers, substantive open forums and outstanding general sessions that explore the most important issues facing the industry in the year ahead. It also provides an ideal opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with industry leaders. As in past years, the year’s conference will feature a golf tournament, committee meetings, a new member reception, panels on topical issues, and a closing gala. Golf and Excursion Details

Golf Tournament: The Quarry Golf Club is home to an award-winning golf course designed by nationally recognized golf course designer Keith Foster. The Quarry is recognized throughout the country for its unique setting and design; the front nine plays in a links-style format and features rolling hills, native grasses and immaculate greens while the back nine lays out in a 100-year-old quarry pit. Players will be given the opportunity to assemble playing groups as the event nears. The entry fee includes bus transportation, a deli box lunch at the course, greens fees, carts and all contests. Once again, NGFA-member sponsors will provide fabulous prizes to the low-scoring foursome, longest-drive winner, closest-to-the-pin winner, longest putt winner, and hole-in-one on a designated hole. (March 16; $175 separate registration fee/$70 tax deductible)

Cooking San Antonio Style: San Antonio is known for its friendly people, great food and genuine hospitality — no one reflects this better than the city’s own Blanca Aldaco.  Blanca’s passion for cooking the foods that she was introduced to as a child is truly inspiring. Not only will you get a blow by blow account of how to make the perfect enchilada right in front of you but you will be served an amazing authentic stuffed enchilada meal as well. Did we mention you also will be shown the secret of how to make quite likely the best Margarita you’ve ever tasted and then be forced to sample it? (March 16; $110 separate registration fee)

Hill Country Day Trip & Wine Tasting: Located just a half hour from the resort, guests are sure to enjoy the little hamlet of Gruene, which is pronounced “green.”  Once a significant cotton producing community, Gruene is now listed among the Historic Places in the National Register.  Filled with antique shops, a wine tasting shop, and the world famous “Gruene Hall – Oldest Honky-Tonk in the State of Texas,” featured in the movie “Michael,” where John Travolta did his famous dance as an angel. After some shopping in Gruene, it is off to Dry Comal Creek Vineyards. The vineyard is known for its rich alluvial soil, laced with limestone, flattened shale chips; which provides ideal growing conditions for the grapes.  Dry Comal Creek is a relatively new venture, but its wines have achieved awards and been recognized for their outstanding quality.  The picturesque setting with lovely limestone structures is a beautiful setting to learn from the owner and expert about Texas wines and enjoy a few tastings. Guests will be given a souvenir glass to take home, and will experience the wines with the wine maker, Sabrina Houser. (March 17; $97 separate registration fee)

Texas Style Shooting: It’s off to The San Antonio Gun Club, the oldest active gun club in the country — not to mention the only shotgun shooting facility located in the heart of a metropolitan city. The SAGC was officially chartered in 1921 and has been in its current location since 1930. Their certified instructors are dedicated to the development of shooting sports and firearms safety.  The order of the day will be a short instructional time on the handling of firearms. Then experienced shooters will be partnered with the new shooter and the contests begin. This tour consists of (50) rounds of ammunition per person and includes the rental of the shotguns and ammunition, eye and ear protection as well as transportation.  Safety instructions given upon arrival. (March 17; $180 separate registration fee)
