AAFCO seeks comments on new feed ingredient approval process
The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) announced Oct. 1 that it is seeking stakeholder comment and feedback on a potential new feed ingredient approval process.
The new pathway under consideration would replace AAFCO’s former Ingredient Definition Request process that sunsetted on October 1, 2024, following the expiration of AAFCO’s Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The new process would be managed by K-State Olathe and include a scientific review panel comprised of subject matter experts to evaluate potential ingredient submissions from industry and provide recommendations back to AAFCO membership for final approval. Approved ingredients would then be included in AAFCO’s Official Publication and gain legal status by adoption into state feed laws.
AAFCO is seeking stakeholder comment and feedback on the proposed process by Oct. 31. All comments should be submitted in writing to [email protected] with the subject line “K-State Olathe Proposal Comment.” NGFA’s Feed Committee will be reviewing the proposal and providing recommendations on the Association’s comments.
