NGFA welcomes progress in transportation funding, supports additional policy considerations as process advances
ARLINGTON, Va., May 22, 2026 — The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) appreciates the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s efforts to advance the BUILD America 250 Act. NGFA supports several provisions in the legislation that will improve freight transportation efficiency in the agricultural supply chain.
NGFA applauded the inclusion of the 10 percent axle-weight variance provision for dry-bulk freight, and the addition of funding for first- and last-mile rural roads. NGFA extends a big thank you to Congressman Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) whose amendment increases truck weights on interstate highways to 91,000 pounds on six axles via a pilot program.
“NGFA’s longstanding approach is that transportation policy remains grounded in operational and data-driven solutions,” said NGFA President and CEO Michael Seyfert. “We appreciate the leadership of Chairman Sam Graves and Ranking Member Rick Larsen to advance this process. We are grateful to Representative Dusty Johnson for his continued support for common-sense changes to truck weights on our federal highways. We look forward to working with the Senate to further consider key policies to help reduce transportation fuel use and costs while improving freight productivity and efficiency.”
